NURS 3210 - Pharmacology and Nursing

This nursing pharmacology course equips students with an introductory understanding of medication management. Students will integrate knowledge of physiology, pathophysiology, and health assessment to make informed nursing judgments regarding medication administration and evaluation, select relevant patient assessments, and interpret patient cues to develop care plans and prioritize nursing actions. Students will develop concept maps and complete case studies that foster patient self-efficacy in disease management, with a focus on culturally sensitive and age-appropriate care for pediatric and geriatric populations. Students will be able to describe the potential risks inherent to medication administration and the importance of promoting a culture of safety, as they clarify their role within the healthcare team to enhance patient outcomes related to pharmacologic therapies. Students will be supported in the cultivation of a professional nursing identity grounded in accountability, integrity, and Christian character. Three lecture hours per week. May be taken by non-nursing students with prior approval from the dean.
