Requirements
Pass the Sophomore Portfolio Review (see explanation below). Liberal Arts: 38 Hours
All majors at Harding are required to complete the 47-hour Liberal Arts program. The following Liberal Arts requirements are met within the content of the major:
- EDFD 2030 and ART 3800 satisfy 6 hours of Self and Society.
- 3 hours of Aesthetics and the Creative Spirit are satisfied in the major.
Additional Requirements:
- MATH 1200 or higher is required to satisfy 3 hours of Inquiry, Investigation, and Reasoning in accordance with the Liberal Arts policy.
Major: 51 Hours
This major includes an embedded minor in art history. Students must declare the minor for it to be reflected on the academic transcript. Note(s):
Students seeking teaching licensure should consult the Cannon-Clary College of Education, Department of Teacher Preparation catalog section for eligibility criteria for admission and retention as well as additional licensure information.
Remaining Bible/Electives: 4 Hours
ART 3750 , counted above in the major, satisfies the Bible Enrollment requirement in the semester it is taken. Bible is not required during the supervised teaching semester. See Bible Class Enrollment policy here .
Note(s): Sophomore Portfolio Review
The sophomore portfolio review, ART 2900 , is for the Art & Design student who has completed (including current classes) 12-15 credit hours of selected core Art & Design coursework. The review is intended to provide feedback on the student’s artistic growth progress. At the review we will be assessing drawing and compositional skills, presentation skills, ability to discuss and exhibit work and the student’s level of knowledge about current professional activity in his or her program area.
A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in Art & Design courses is required to be eligible for participating in sophomore portfolio review. Passing the sophomore portfolio review is a prerequisite to enrolling in junior-level courses in the major.
