CHEM 4120L - Lab: Environmental Chemistry

This course is the laboratory application of environmental chemistry. The course will study the chemistry of air, water, and toxic compounds as they are related to the greater systems of our planet. We will learn proper sampling techniques and analytical and instrumental methods that allow environmental scientists to measure the quantity and flow of nutrients and contaminants through water and atmospheric gases. Topics that may be incorporated include steady- and nonsteady-state modeling, chemical kinetics, stratospheric ozone, photochemical smog, the greenhouse effect, carbonate equilibria, the application of partition coefficients, pesticides, and toxic metals.

Prerequisite(s): CHEM 4120  (may be taken concurrently)

Credit Hours: 1

Term Offered: Spring of odd years

Fee(s): $100
