NURS 4530 - Community Health Nursing This course prepares nursing students to provide care focused on improving health outcomes for communities and populations. Building on previous courses, the nursing process and public health science are used to make clinical judgments focused on prevention, health promotion, and disease management. Students will assess the impact of the social determinants of health on populations, individuals, and families. The impact of healthcare systems, access to care, health policy, and laws on health outcomes is critically evaluated. Advocacy for equitable health outcomes is emphasized and guided by the Christian principles of justice, a belief in human dignity, and compassion. Clinical experiences take place in various settings, engaging students with community agencies that address population needs. Three lecture hours per week and 45 clinical hours. This course is eligible for honors credit.
