NURS 3500 - Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing


Evidence-based theories, concepts, and the nursing process are emphasized to promote critical thinking skills to provide holistic nursing care. In acute and community-based settings, students use standards of ethical professional nursing practice to assist adult patients with mental health and psychiatric concerns to restore, maintain, and promote recovery and attain optimum well-being. Responsibility and accountability for nursing care, teamwork, ethical issues, respect for human worth and dignity, cultural diversity, global perspective, and commitment to a servant-leadership lifestyle are foundational elements for clinical judgments and patient outcomes. Three lecture hours per week and 45 clinical hours.

Prerequisite(s): MATH 1110 , NURS 2030/2030L , NURS 3000 , NURS 3620L
