ENG 1110 - Introduction to University Writing and Research


This course trains students in outlining, drafting, revising, and proofreading highly-polished writing that is engaged with diverse points of view and that meets the requirements of university-level work. Students will learn to use grammar, sentence structure, paragraphing, and organization to explain an idea clearly with depth and detail. They will investigate other perspectives on their ideas using library and online resources, and they will learn the mechanics of proper citation and formatting. Designed to be taken at the beginning of a student’s studies, this course lays the groundwork for success in other university courses. A grade of C or higher is required to be eligible for ENG 2110 .

Prerequisite(s): 18 or above on the ACT English examination, 500 or above on the SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing examination, or 255 or above on the Next Generation ACCUPLACER Writing Skills exam
