NURS 2100 - Skills for Health Missions


A fundamental health mission skills course designed to prepare learners to perform basic skills in globally diverse cultural populations. Examples include first aid including CPR, health history, identification of common health problems, vital signs, principles for staying healthy and rudimentary pharmacological principles. Concepts of universal precautions and teaching/learning are emphasized. The course also includes introductory cultural anthropology concepts to prepare learners to be culturally sensitive when serving among people of diverse worldviews. (Includes weekly laboratory experiences.) The course is required for students attending the international study abroad program in Zambia (HIZ) and is tailored to meet those needs; other university students must have faculty approval before registering for the course.
