Master of Arts in Teaching


The expected Program Learning Outcomes for all MAT programs are:

  • The teacher will:
    • design and implement developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences
    • create learning environments that enable each learner to meet high standards
    • create environments that support individual and collaborative learning, encouraging positive social interaction, active engagement, and self-motivation in learning
    • understand content discipline well enough to create learning experiences that make the content accessible and meaningful for all learners (based on AR Educator Competencies for the designated first-time standard licensure area)
    • make content knowledge relevant to learners by connecting it to local, state, national, and global issues
    • use assessments to guide teaching, monitor student learning process, and engage learners in monitoring self-growth
    • plan for instruction to support all learners based on content knowledge and knowledge of learner development and community context
    • use a variety of instructional strategies to encourage learners to deeply understand content, connect with other content, and develop ways to apply knowledge in meaningful ways
    • engage in ongoing professional growth and development and adapt practice
    • take responsibility for student learning and collaborate with various stakeholders to support learner growth
