Secondary Education, (Licensure)

Students seeking licensure to teach must major in a secondary teaching area.

Requirements

To receive an endorsement for K-12 in any of the following areas, the student must complete the appropriate academic major:

• Art: Art Major (AEDU) (Teacher licensure), BA  
• Foreign Language: French Major (FRE) (Teacher licensure), BA , Spanish Major (SPE) (Teacher licensure), BA  
• Kinesiology/Health/Coaching: Kinesiology and Health Major, K-12 (KNED) (Teacher licensure), BS  
• Music Vocal: Music Education - Vocal Major (VMED) (Teacher licensure), BME  
• Music Instrumental: Music Education - Instrumental Major (IMED) (Teacher licensure), BME   
• And 6 hours of physical education, including HED 3030  and three hours of physical education activity.

To receive an endorsement for 7-12 in any of the following areas, the student must complete the appropriate academic major:

• Drama/Speech: Drama/Speech Major (DSED) (Teacher licensure), BA  
• English/Language Arts: English Major (ENED) (Teacher licensure), BA  
• Family and Consumer Sciences: Family and Consumer Sciences Education Major (FCED), BS    
• Mathematics: Mathematics Major (MAED) (Teacher licensure), BA  
• Physical Science: Chemistry Major (CED1) (Teacher licensure), BA  
• Social Studies: Social Science Major (SOED) (Teacher licensure), BA  
• And 6 hours of physical education, including HED 3030  and 3 hours of physical education activity.

Students seeking initial and additional licensure should consult the Cannon-Clary College of Education, Department of Teacher Preparation  catalog section and must meet current Arkansas licensure and Cannon-Clary College of Education requirements in that teaching field as announced by ADE.
