PT 8232 - Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy Practice This course is designed to focus on the primary and secondary cardiopulmonary impairments that limit therapeutic and patient outcomes in various settings which include intensive care units, long term care, outpatients, school setting and home care. Emphasis is placed on the components of physical therapy practice - screening, examination, evaluation, diagnosis, and prognosis, development of a plan of care, intervention, and evaluations of outcomes. The inter-relationship of other health care professionals into the team care of patient will be discussed. Application of the following concepts is included: communication, individual and cultural differences, professional behavior, critical inquiry and clinical decision making, patient and caregiver education, pharmacological management, and management of health care delivery. The course incorporates lectures, small group case discussions, individual assignments, self-study assignments, and clinics labs/simulations.
