ENG 3950 - Professional EditingStudents will learn the theory and practice of professional editing, including a range of approaches and philosophies, as well as how to communicate professionally with clients. Students will become familiar with editing software tools such as Track Changes as well as more traditional methods of marking manuscripts. Students will learn a range of techniques for editing, from proofreading and lower-order (grammar) concerns to content-based and higher-order (structural) concerns. Students will apply the editing rules in The Chicago Manual of Style and appreciate the nuances among various style guides. Assignments will include out-of-class reading and editing exercises, in-class work, a portfolio, a group presentation, and exams. Credit Hours: 3 Term Offered: Fall of odd years |
