ENG 5070 - British Romantic Literature


This course will explore the literature of Romanticism. Students will analyze and interpret literary texts written from 1798 to 1837, addressing spiritual, aesthetic, historical, intellectual, and political contexts. Genres may include poetry, the prose essay, the closet drama, and the novel. Previously taught authors include Charlotte Smith, William Blake, Mary Wollstonecraft, Robert Burns, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, George Gordon (Lord Byron), Percy Shelley, Mary Shelley, Felicia Hemans, John Keats, Charles Lamb, and William Hazlitt.
