ENG 5050 - Victorian StudiesSpecialized study of the work of selected major Victorian poets, novelists, and nonfiction writers in their historical, religious, political, and aesthetic contexts. Students will explore a topic in depth and examine the richness and complexity of England's contribution to literature during the 19th century years of Queen Victoria's reign. Previous topics have included Victorian poetry, and the Literature of Faith and Doubt. Previous authors have included Alfred, Lord Tennyson, Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Gerard Manley Hopkins, Matthew Arnold, Algernon Swinburne, Thomas Hardy, Anthony Trollope, Christina Rossetti, Charlotte and Emily Bronte, George Eliot, Charles Darwin, and more.
