ENG 3600 - American Poetry


This course surveys American poetry with a particular focus on the influential movements and schools of the twentieth century. As students analyze and interpret texts within relevant cultural, aesthetic and spiritual contexts, they will also learn the rhetorical and analytical methods appropriate to the exegesis of modern and contemporary poetry-a body of work that includes some of the more challenging texts in the literary canon. Previously taught authors include T. S. Eliot, Wallace Stevens, William Carlos Williams, H. D., Marianne Moore, Gwendolyn Brooks, Sylvia Plath, Robert Lowell, Adrienne Rich, and Denise Levertov, among others
