PHA 7530 - Pharmacotherapy IV


Integration of the pathophysiology of selected diseases and disorders related to the nervous system with the therapeutic use of drugs used to treat these diseases and disorders. At the conclusion of this course, students will be able to explain the rationale for use of specific drug categories in the treatment of nervous system diseases and disorders. Course content will emphasize recognition and management of medication-related problems and decision-making processes including utilization of laboratory tests and patient assessment skills to monitor drug efficacy and toxicity. Problem-based case studies will be used to assist students in designing a pharmacy care plan for the patient. The use of complementary and alternative therapies as well as the social/behavioral/administrative aspects of nervous system diseases and disorders will be addressed. This is a student-centered learning course designed to begin the process of lifelong learning for students as health care professionals.
