PHS 118 - Chemistry and Culture


This course investigates the interplay between chemistry and culture. Topics covered may include the interplay of chemistry and art, the role of chemistry in cooking, or the historical development of chemistry. Foundational chemistry topics covered may include light and its properties, scientific measurements, matter, atomic structure, periodic trends, acids and bases, chemical reactions, organic chemistry, and polymers. Designed for non-science majors. This course is a 3-hour laboratory science course, and will consist of 2 hours of lecture and 1 3-hour laboratory per week. This class may make use of the testing center and/or may give exams outside of regularly scheduled class hours.
