PHA 768 - Long Term Care

Consultant pharmacy practice historically originated in the provision of pharmacy services to geriatric populations in nursing homes. Today, consultant pharmacists serve residents of all ages across the full spectrum of long-term care settings. The consultant pharmacist is an integral member of the interdisciplinary health care team, working with physicians, nurses, and other team members to optimize drug therapy and help ensure the best possible overall treatment outcome. Consultant pharmacists are mandated by federal regulations to safeguard the health, safety, and well-being of each individual in their care. This elective will provide experience in which the student will have the opportunity to develop clinical skills and competence in the provision of pharmaceutical care to residents of long-term care, assisted living, and other care facilities.
