Undergraduate Distinctions

Distinction means “excellence that sets someone or something apart.” Whether in research and writing, or through the rigors of pursuing honors contracts, students challenge themselves to grow in skills like critical and creative thinking, collaboration, and communication—pillars of the 21st century educational experience. In critical thinking, students ask probing questions and explore the complexities of issues. In thinking creatively, students imagine new solutions while exploring how best to express, with nuance, solutions to global and local issues. In collaborating, students learn in community, discerning the ways in which their unique strengths match with those of others in the pursuit of common goals. And in communication, students learn to clearly articulate their views, both verbally and in writing. By marrying these skills with values like fortitude, bolstered by the pursuit of knowledge and understanding, students learn not only hard skills necessary for the dynamic marketplace but they signal a deeper desire to pursue wisdom.
