Finance Major


The expected Program Learning Outcomes for this major are:

  • Demonstrate:
    • an ability to analyze and interpret financial data to reveal trends and financial strengths and vulnerabilities.
    • an understanding of investment portfolio management theory and techniques.
    •  an understanding of risk management theory, tools and techniques.
    • a working knowledge of the overall dynamics of microeconomics and its major ideas, business economy and markets, and regulation.
    • good, sound, cause and effect, critical thinking skills that are at the heart of simplified economic reasoning and application.
    • mastery of microeconomic subject material through current event review, research and analysis.
    • the ability to integrate financial information and analysis into a written report in a well-organized and easy to understand manner.
    • the ability to prepare budgets and financial forecasts using Excel or other widely utilized business application software.
    • the usefulness of basic tools of economic analysis to show the insights they yield for solving interdisciplinary problems.
    • understanding of the principles and techniques of valuation, including discounted cash flow analysis, terminal value, capitalization rates, and generally accepted methods and standards of valuation.
