Communication Sciences and Disorders Major


The expected Program Learning Outcomes for this major are:

  • Students will:
    • apply knowledge of developmental milestones to develop an appropriate treatment plan for pediatric language disorders.
    • be able to list and define the five components of language.
  • Students will demonstrate:
    • a robust and person-centered knowledge of aural rehabilitation services beyond amplification.
    • basic knowledge of human anatomy & physiology supporting speech, language, voice and swallowing.
    • a basic proficiency in making appropriate amplification recommendations based on audiometric findings and a case history.
    • competence in narrow phonetic transcription of normal and disordered speech.
    • general knowledge of various outer and middle ear disorders.
    • proficiency in academic writing related to the discipline.
    • proficiency in speech and hearing science.
    • the ability to interpret findings from common tools used to evaluate articulation/phonological disorders.
