Accounting Major


The expected Program Learning Outcomes for this major are:

  • Demonstrate:
    • basic accounting knowledge and mastery of year-end accounting cycle.
    • ability to prepare comprehensive, consolidated and governmental financial statements.
    • an understanding of current accounting topics including new pronouncements.
    • analytical and critical thinking skills to prepare, analyze and interpret financial information as well as formulate reasonable conclusions.
    • understanding of the audit process from pre-audit planning through issuance of the various audit reports.
    • knowledge of current auditing standards, acceptable audit practices, risk assessment considerations, internal control measures and ability to provide knowledgeable recommendation.
    • understanding and application of cost accounting budgeting and procedures to evaluate projects and processes.
    • an understanding and application of the current Internal Revenue Code as it applies to individual and corporate taxation.
    • ability to analyze 10K and other SEC filings.
    • professional oral presentation skills.
    • professional writing skills.
